Creating a Safer and Smarter Learning Space via Strategic Interior Demolition

At Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Banner Environmental Services was brought in to support critical renovations to the TLT (Toilets/Lavatories/Tile) areas across two floors of the school. Working closely with the general contractor, our team delivered strategic interior demolition services—clearing the way for modern upgrades while ensuring full compliance with environmental and safety protocols.

This selective demolition project showcases Banner’s ability to work efficiently within active educational facilities, delivering clean, safe results with minimal disruption.

Selective Demolition in a School Environment

The project involved extensive selective interior demolition across approximately 2,100 square feet, spanning the lower level and first floor of the facility.

On the lower level, Banner removed:

222 linear feet of CMU wall partitions (up to 12’ high)
30 linear feet of wood-framed glass wall assemblies
400 square feet of ceramic tile and luxury vinyl tile (LVT)
500 square feet of acoustic ceiling tile (ACT) and grid from office areas
Doors, frames, and toilet fixtures

We also performed saw cuts through select wall sections to prepare the area for plumbing and electrical upgrades.

On the first floor, the work continued with:

98 linear feet of CMU wall partitions
800 square feet of ACT ceiling removal
600 square feet of ceramic tile removal
Additional demo of walls, doors, ceilings, and restroom components

Banner managed dumpster logistics at each entrance and left each area broom-cleaned and ready for the next phase of construction.

Floor Prep and Optional Add-Ons

Given the presence of mud-set ceramic tile, Banner offered an add-on for floor grinding to help smooth and prepare the surface for new finishes. This option, priced per square foot, ensured our partners had a clean and level surface for their finish work—without delays.

Although VAT (Vinyl Asbestos Tile) was assumed present throughout, its removal was excluded from this project scope. Any hazardous materials requiring asbestos abatement would be handled under separate containment and protocol, per Banner’s licensed asbestos abatement services.

Underground Plumbing Support

As part of an alternate bid, Banner also priced and prepared for trenching work to support underground plumbing (UGP) installations.

Our team proposed:

Saw cutting 81 linear feet of trench (162 SF)
Excavating up to 3 feet deep
Stockpiling, backfilling, and compacting soils
Installing 6 cubic yards of bedding sand
Setting dowels and pouring 3.4 CY of 4,000# Quikrete
Providing trowel finishing for all new slabs

This work was scoped to integrate seamlessly with MEP trades, coordinating closely with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical teams while excluding tasks like ledge removal, dewatering, and soil testing (left to the GC).

Collaboration with Trades and Safety First

Banner’s scope was designed to dovetail with the work of other licensed trades. This included:

Leaving fixture disconnection to plumbing trades
Allowing HVAC teams to drain radiators before removal
Coordinating with electricians to safely drop lighting and conduit before demo

Our experienced crews followed strict OSHA protocols, wore appropriate PPE, and ensured every phase of the work was conducted with student and staff safety in mind.
