Essential Asbestos Abatement for an Essential Service
Fire stations aren’t just buildings—they’re lifelines. And when it came time for much-needed upgrades to the Beverly Fire Station in Beverly, Massachusetts, Banner Environmental Services was brought in to perform asbestos abatement across key areas of the facility.
This project is part of a larger renovation effort in partnership with Gage Construction, ensuring the station is safe, up to code, and ready to serve the community for decades to come.
Preparing for Construction with Safe Asbestos Removal in Beverly, MA
Originally constructed during an era when asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were widely used in public buildings, the Beverly Fire Station required expert remediation prior to new construction and modernization. The materials in question were embedded in multiple components of the building—from windows to skylights to roofing and more.
Banner Environmental was contracted to:
- Remove and dispose of approximately 50 windows with asbestos-containing caulking, glazing, and sealants (including skylight units)
- Remove and dispose of 8 doors with asbestos-containing frame caulking
- Remove and dispose of quarry tile flooring at overhead door locations
- Remove and dispose of approximately 975 square feet of asbestos-containing asphaltic roofing
How Banner Ensured Safety and Compliance
Asbestos abatement in an active fire station requires careful planning, coordination with multiple stakeholders, and adherence to strict regulatory guidelines. Banner’s licensed abatement technicians deployed containment and control measures to ensure that the work was completed with minimal disruption to the facility.
All work was completed using:
- HEPA-filtered negative air machines
- Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) for technicians
- Sealed containment zones with warning signage
- Certified asbestos waste packaging, manifesting, and disposal
By aligning with OSHA, MassDEP, and local health codes, Banner ensured that both occupants and the surrounding community remained safe throughout the duration of the project.
Collaboration with Gage Construction
Our work at the Beverly Fire Station was done in close coordination with Gage Construction, the general contractor leading the broader renovation effort. This partnership ensured smooth project flow, clear communication, and site readiness for upcoming construction phases.
By finishing on schedule and to spec, Banner provided a clean and hazard-free foundation for Gage to execute structural upgrades and modernizations with confidence.
A Safer Facility for First Responders
This project holds special meaning. First responders rely on safe, functional facilities so they can do what they do best: protect others. By removing asbestos from critical areas like windows, roofing, and doors, Banner contributed to the long-term health and safety of Beverly’s firefighters and emergency personnel.
This was more than a building job—it was an investment in those who serve our communities every day.
